Design
as a whole.

01

What is ACICI?

A headscarf of my mother’s – colourful, with handmade oya edging.

I took it with me everywhere. Even though the scarf was often replaced, the name stayed. Because it was about more than the object itself. It brought together handcraft, structure and expression with a sense of belonging.

Today my studio is called ACICI.

Here, too, it is about more than a single discipline. ACICI Studio is my creative space, where architecture, art and experimental work come together – three fields that, for me, are inseparably connected.

I don’t see your idea simply as a commission, but as the starting point for a shared creative process.

02

Why do I design?

For me, design begins with recognising potential and questioning what already exists.

I am interested in the interplay of people, context, perception and emotion. I want to create spaces and works with their own identity and meaning – ones that do more than serve a function, that awaken feelings and make personal connections possible.

I don’t see architecture, art and craft as isolated disciplines, but as different expressions of my approach to design. They give me the freedom to look at ideas from different perspectives and to think beyond existing boundaries.

My aim: to create meaningful spaces, make experiences possible and make emotions accessible.

03

How do I work?

My work combines analytical thinking with intuition, creativity and a love of experimenting.

In architecture I work conceptually and holistically. People, use and context are the starting point of a design, which I develop consistently – from the first idea through spatial organisation, form, material and atmosphere to the construction detail.

In my art, feelings and personal experiences are essential impulses. In craft, ideas often arise spontaneously from everyday observations and encounters with materials, forms or techniques. The experimenting itself comes first, without a finished result having to be fixed from the start.

My synaesthetic perception accompanies these processes. Impressions, surroundings and emotions trigger colours and forms that flow into my ideas and shape my design decisions.

Approach

  1. 01

    Need

What does the place need, and what do the people need? I read the existing building, its context and its use closely.

  2. 02

    Response

This leads to a clear stance: what stays, what goes and what is added.

  3. 03

    Concept

I develop a holistic concept that solves the problem and adds value for the people who use the space.

  4. 04

    Experience

A space should have its own identity, appeal to the senses and awaken feelings. That way it is not just used, but experienced.

Result: design as a whole. See it in Quo Vadis →
